HTC Touch HD Now Shipping in the U.S.

Earlier this fall, many were excited by the announcement of the HTC Touch HD, a device with a 3.8-inch, WVGA touchscreen and other high-end features. Then came the announcement a few weeks later that this smartphone isn't going to be officially released in the United States.

Fortunately for those in the U.S. and Canada who want to get their hands on the Touch HD, grey-market retailers are stepping in.

eXpansys USA just received a shipment, and is taking orders for this Windows Mobile device on its website. The price is $800, which isn't unusually high for a phone that is available on through a grey-market retailer.

Those who have already pre-ordered the Touch HD from eXpansys should receive it early next week.

Other grey-market retailers, including MobileCityOnline and Dynamism, are promising to offer this high-end smartphone, but don't yet know when they will have it in stock.

More About the HTC Touch HD

The centerpiece of this smartphone is a large, 800-by-480-pixel (WVGA) touchscreen, but it also sports a GPS receiver, a 5 MPx camera, and a microSD card slot.

It runs Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro and uses HTC's TouchFLO 3D user interface. Inside is a 528 MHz Qualcomm processor, 512 MB of flash memory, and 288 MB of RAM.

This unlocked phone has quad-band GSM but its HSDPA support is in European bands only. Still, it has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0/EDR.
